Paranoid Park
So my sister visited me around the time I started getting bitten. Now she is back in her own apartment in San Francisco and getting itchy spots. Although she hasn’t seen a live bed bug, she is sure that she has them.
I told her to lay out the glue traps with the heating pads, buy encasements and a steam cleaner, and caulk the cracks and crevices in her apartment. She bought encasements and put them on last night, which is how I discovered that Clean Rest encasements are 17″ deep. She is also isolating her bed as she thinks this will make them come out during the day so that she can see them.
I don’t think she has bed bugs, and when I started getting bitten I freaked out the first night or two, then bought the traps. When I didn’t see any, I relaxed. Now I wish that I had bought some encasements… (maybe I would have if I had known about my heavily-infested neighbor) perhaps I could have kept my mattress. I don’t know if caulking would have helped me any.
Preventing bed bugs in an uninfested apartment is a subject matter that is very interesting to me. Because I have a heavily-infested neighbor, people have been telling me to move. But I can’t really be sure that wherever I move to (with my budget, anyway) will not have a neighbor with bed bugs also.
