Day Eight: Getting to Your Clothes During Post-Treatment Without Going Crazy
So now I get to see how all those items I purchased during my Home Depot spree pan out during the long haul.
The garbage bags and cable ties were great during my pre-treatment laundry and packing. And I’m still happy that Bedbugger.com figured out this brilliant solution to avoid constant tying and untying of trash bags. Cable ties and trash bags are both very affordable, also.
My poor scissors broke this morning trying to open a bag of clothes. The tips were too wide anyways to get under the tightened ties. I had “safety scissors” handy, though, which you can buy in the beauty section of any drugstore or Walmart – the ones with the rounded tips meant for clipping nosehairs. These can still make small holes while trying to cut open the ties, but they are much better. I have been repairing small holes with my 2 in. painter’s tape, a 2 in. square taped to the inside and outside of the bag on the tear.
Also, I wasn’t sure how the Space Bags would pan out. They’re a weird size and they have that big round plastic thing in the center to fit a vacuum nozzle. But I’m happy with the two that I have, and am using them for my clothes in season that I need to access every day. One of them I’m using in combination with gallon and quart Ziplocs filled with underwear and other small items (pictured below). The other one just has clothes in it. The little blue thingie in the upper left hand corner of the one pictured is unattached, but clips on and when you slide it across the top of the bag, it seals it closed. The seal then comes undone like a Ziploc bag by pulling the sides open.
And the Ziploc Big Bags work very well for accessing clothes easily – just don’t fill them more than halfway or they can pop open. But they are a little over a dollar per bag, so just buy a bunch and try to pack thoughtfully if you have time. For items that you know you will be storing a long time – winter coats in the summer, etc., however – the cable ties and garbage bags work very well.

Same boat. Wonder if there will be a bedbug parade/protest to get help from city. Good luck to you.
